Izaak Walton (1593-1683)
A native Houstonian, Monica Lamb has made it her life's mission to promote community health and wellness. Long before she was 6'5 inches tall and a world class professional athlete, Monica knew she would serve as an ambassador for fitness and wellbeing. No surprise she founded the ML Wellness Foundation, Inc., a regional health organization advocating health education and disease prevention. The ML Wellness foundation was created in 1999. Its mission is to promote health and wellness with women and children. A non profit with 501c3 status, the organization conducts ongoing community based initiatives focused on this task.
Prior to launching a 15 year professional career in basketball, Monica earned her BA degree from the University of Southern California. She played professionally in Italy, Spain, France and with the World Champion WNBA Houston Comets, as well as with USA national teams - earning a host of championships and awards along the way. Quite a feat for the tall, gangly kid out of the Third Ward section of Houston who many thought could not walk and chew gum simultaneously. Being a professional athlete and public figure well prepared Monica for a life now spent in community service and development and the wonderful task of caring for her 2 children and husband, Felix.
Today Monica is working on a variety of projects that will allow the continuance of promoting community health ad wellness. Ever expanding the scope of services provided in the communities she serves, while making time to serve on several boards and advisory councils. Monica also spends a considerable amount of time each year facilitating seminars, trainings and speaking publicly in addition to consulting corporate clients with their employee wellness goals. She has taken a childhood passion and turned it into a career that has helped countless individuals to 'Think well and Be well' She is currently developing a health and wellness guide, a quarterly publication focused on all things wellness in the greater Houston area.
